The Big Swim
Bristol Channel Record Attempt
An ambitious challenge.
Local swimmers Susy Havenhand-Lago and Issy Shrewry, and coach Hamish McCarthy, are planning an ambitious open-water challenge in the Bristol Channel this summer that may involve setting a world record.
The Bristol Channel is widely regarded as one of the toughest environments for endurance swimming due to its strong tides, cold water, and unpredictable conditions. The aim of the challenge is to be the youngest and fastest youth to swim it (from Penarth to Clevedon), as recognised by the Bristol Channel Swimming Association.
